Finished

We've done it, 350 miles, 8 days, 7 lads. Oban to Inverness.

What a fantastic trip, team effort and reception at Eden court theatre. John, Nat, Toby, Roy, Jai , Peter - you've been fantastic company for the week and to have raised so much money has blown me away. We've had our things to sort out but Roy's bike limped home and Roy and Toby coaxed the 'beast' home. My knee coped in the end.

Thank you to all our families, all those who have encouraged and donated, and especially to Becky for encouraging me to see it through
…we love you all.

Tiggy always loved, missed terribly and remembered forever.

Dad often in my thoughts on this trip, love you.

Last day

On our last day into Inverness, with many mixed emotions. The final climb:

Notice the hairy faces and smelly clothes. Hoping the finishing party post the winner of the beard competition.

Bearings

Little did we know that bar ladies bike was not then end of mechanical problems.

The beast was bouncier than a trampoline, Toby bobbed up to the top of this hill:

So we engineered a carefully positioned stone to reduce the suspension. (see blue tape) Much seat experimentation was needed to reduce groin gripes. Jai's gel seat the finishing touch and the bike then rotated.

Lovely route, deers spotted

A little mouse

We found a fab spot for lunch: pasta n sauce.

Then strange noises started emerging from Roy's direction, was it the knickerbockerglory?… Much wiggling revealed a grinding rear ball bearing… pannier's stripped off and weight reduced and we cycled into Lairg.

Two bikes unable to take panniere's + Jai needing to reduce weight a bit. 48 miles to Inverness. Ummmm. Plan G: we is going to get a car to lift the excess baggage to Inverness.

Final day tomorrow.…

How many calories

After a drink and chat at Scourie hotel we hunkered down for a rainy night in the tents.

Porridge, packed and stretches done. Off upto Durness; much faster road than the last two days finishing with a fab decent 10miles along the valley.

Check out those knees!

Concentration lads… here it comes:

Durness 31miles to go to Tongue …

Then, at lunch, out of nowhere Roy's SAS training kicks in and he takes his lunch to new levels - count the calories!

A day for all weathers

It started out so fine… the route beautiful if very hilly and tuff.

5 hours in the saddle later passing lochs and film crews filming a red Bentley going over Kylesku bridge. Then the heavens opened and we put our grim faces on and powered the last hour.... Rapidly losing sensation of all ten toes.

Now in Scourie even the campsite manager called us mad. Tents up and showers had Feeling returning to toes. Sun coming out:

Action shot of pasta

The midges set in during pasta. Time for the caption competition:

Midges nil - cup of Tea nil

Ooops Roys fishing attempt goes wrong

Ben's midge hat was also useful at disguising Nats cooking
